A result of an accidental father/daughter union, this great grandson of the influential Eng. Ch. Gotoground
Widgon Bunny and by far the most famous Ickworth Norfolk, Ready was bred in 1967 by Mrs. Kirkby Peace and
owned by Miss A. Hazeldine. He is a product of Gotoground, Nanfan and Hunston breeding. Of note, neither
his single littermate nor his 5 full siblings contributed significantly to the breed yet they had an inbreeding
coefficient of 39.2% and theoretically should have had a greater impact on the breed. Had he lived longer he
may have proven a far greater contributor to the breed, but he only lived for 4 years, dying in 1972. Of his 84
half siblings on his sire's side only two were champions He had 4 half siblings on his dam's side, none of which
were champions. He himself was bred 26 times producing a total of 59 get with 10 champions to his credit
including the significant Eng. Ch. Ragus Brown Sugar out of Eng. Ch. Ragus Bewitched, Ch. Badgewood
King's Lynn, and Ch. Badgewood Blakeney out of Eng. Am. Ch. Badgewood Bonnie. He was bred 4 times to
Ickworth Priscilla to produce 8 puppies carrying the Ickworth prefix and producing 2 champions from these
matings. From 4 matings to Ickworth Bluemarking Katriona he produced 8 puppies, one of which was a
champion. Of the 5 matings to Eng. Ch. Ickworth Proper Pretty there were 12 offspring with 1 champion, all
carrying the Ickworth prefix. Ready was credited by Marjorie Bunting of Ragus fame with an excellent
temperament, line bred to Widgeon Bunny and the source of the qualities in (Eng. Ch. Nanfan) Heckle that
Mrs. Bunting liked so much. According to Mrs. Bunting Ready's head was not quite good enough but bred to a
good head this was overcome. From Mrs. Southwick, "Nanfan Hannah I bred and kept her sister, 'a better
one'." A descendant of Hunston Heralda who had "almost prick ears" which occured regularly in Hunston
Herald's strain. Their harsh red wheaten coats and dark eyes were useful virtues. Another ancestor, Hunston
Holy Smoke, she found less cooperative, less keen on sport, and just not as much fun as her Herald line. Kay
liked her Norfolk small and Smoker at five years old weighed 18 lbs. "Too cloddy to be very active." Alder may
have been nearly the same size, "but he had better shoulders."" Respected by breeder-judges and all-rounders
winner of 17 CC's, all with BOB's and the Crufts BOB winner in 1970 and 1971. It was at the Scottish Kennel
Club show in 1969 that Ready honored the breed as the first Norfolk Terrier to win a group at a championship
show in Britain. You may follow his Descendancy Chart Tail Male and Tail Female to the first known
